Every piece is designed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and built by hand at our mill in Henniker, NH. Design and prototyping happen in Portsmouth; the milling, joinery and finishing happen at the Henniker mill — which is where the Mill Collection takes its name.

Yes. We build to order rather than hold stock, so there is a short wait, but it also means the timber and finish are prepared for you. Smaller pieces like the Hanover Side Table or Mill Floating Shelf typically ship in 3–5 weeks; larger furniture such as the Atelier and Henniker tables usually takes 8–10 weeks. We confirm a timeline before any work begins.

Often, yes — many pieces can be adjusted in dimension or timber, and we take on commissions in the spirit of the collection. Tell us about your space through the contact form and we will come back with options, a timeline and a quote.

Solid timber, always — no veneers or particleboard. We use American walnut and white oak for the seating and fine tables (the Portland Chair, Atelier Table and Hanover Side Table), and kiln-dried structural white cedar for the monolithic Henniker and Mill pieces. Joints are keyed with solid brass or a contrasting wood — the Portland Chair uses brass inserts in walnut and walnut inserts in white oak. Everything is finished with open-pore, repairable oils.

Because it is natural solid wood. White cedar is a softwood milled from structural beams, so every board differs — expect knots, grain variation and fine surface “checks” (small cracks that open as the timber settles). These are inherent to the material, not defects. Being softer, white cedar also patinas beautifully and takes on the marks of daily life, growing more characterful over the years.

The Mill Floating Bench and Floating Shelf ship with concealed steel mounting hardware and appear to float clear of the floor or wall. They must be fixed into solid structure — studs or masonry. We include an installation guide and are happy to recommend an installer.

We ship across the continental United States. Smaller objects go by insured carrier; furniture ships blanket-wrapped freight. Local delivery around the Seacoast and central New Hampshire can be arranged directly.

Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and refresh the oil finish once or twice a year with a hard-wax oil. Keep solid wood out of direct, prolonged sun and away from heat sources. Small marks can be spot-sanded and re-oiled at home — every order ships with a care card.

Made-to-order and commissioned work is non-returnable, but every piece is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship. If something is not right, contact us and we will make it right.
